I was happy to have such beautiful weather this past week so I could get outside to do some painting. This is a piece done en plein air of some red Knockout roses in my backyard garden. It takes until around 11 am for the sun to hit this rose bush, which made for a pretty hot painting session. I had to work fast to catch the right light, but that is the beauty of plein air painting - limited time forces you to focus on what is important to express your idea.

OK - so the weather here in Texas isn't snowy, yet. But while shopping over the weekend, it was nice to hear Christmas music piping through the speakers, then more Christmas music in the car on the way home. My Petite Painting Project - 100 paintings in 100 days is coming right along. I think I am getting close to painting #60! These roses didn't last very long and I had too many commitments, so I wasn't able to paint them enough. I think I will go to the market today and get some more!

Heirloom Pinks

Love these Heirloom garden roses I found at the market! The way the petals curl inward toward the center is so charming. I put them in this footed glass bowl which perfectly shows them off. I am keeping ice cubes in their water, so they won't open up too fast (warm water makes them open up sooner) and hopefully I will be able paint them for several more days.
