Subtleties in Green by Darla McDowell

6x7-Inch Oil on Linen Panel

I loved painting this little pear and all of its imperfections. It served to remind me of the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. Finding beauty in imperfection and accepting life's impermanence is such a beautiful concept. Nothing lasts. Nothing is finished. Nothing is perfect.

Happy painting!

Temple Bottle with Grapes and Fig by Darla McDowell

9x12 Inches on Linen Panel

Usually, my Sundays are spent cooking and puttering around the house, but this week, I finished all of my chores on Saturday. So, this morning was spent blissfully painting in my pajamas. I'm thankful for an understanding husband that doesn't mind my craziness. Life is pretty sweet.

My favorite part of this painting is the pureness of the early morning light. It is a bit bigger than normal and measures 9x12 inches. It's available through my Daily Paintworks gallery.

I hope your weekend is relaxing and full of your favorite adventures. Happy painting!

6x7 Inches - Oil on Linen Panel

Painting more of my Dad's peaches. It's been a great way to beat the Texas heat. Stay cool!

Local Color: Persimmon Square by Texas Artist Darla McDowell

It is cotton harvest time on the ranch, and I couldn't resist picking a few bolls for painting.

I hope you're enjoying a wonderful week and the lovely colors of fall.

Pomegranate Study by Texas Artist Darla McDowell

At the market yesterday, I found the prettiest pomegranates. You may be seeing more of them, because they are so fun to paint!

I hope you're having a great week!

Split Mallet Jar with Garlic by Texas Artist Darla McDowell

I had such fun painting this morning.  My little office/study truly is my “happy” place.  Now, I am off to winterize our yard.  It is a gorgeous day, and I want to get out and enjoy the sunshine.

Happy Saturday!

Cobalt Mallet Bottle with Mission Figs

The past few months, I have been posting a few process shots (see below) of my paintings on Instagram. It is fun to get feedback from the creative community there, and it is even more fun to see all of the wonderful artwork that is posted.  If you are using Instagram, I would love to follow you.  And if you would like to follow my posts, my ID is d_mcdowell.

I hope you have a great weekend!

After four, blissful days of rain and cool weather, the sun is shining brightly here again. I can't believe that it is almost the middle of July. Summer moves so quickly!

I hope you're having a great weekend!

Daddy's Boys, Contemporary Still Life by Darla McDowell

These little boots belonged to my husband and his two brothers.  The toes are scuffed, and the heels are worn.  You can tell that they were well loved by all of the boys.
