Whew - the end of the kid's school year is a whirlwind! Tons of meetings, parties, banquets and ceremonies to attend. Makes me long for filling my calendar with relaxing, having tea and reading my days away.

Painting Peonies makes for a Starving Artist by Pamela Blaies

Peonies and Stacked Books

oil on canvas

24" x 20"

When I set up this still life, I noticed the petals had opened up beautifully, so I began to focus on the peonies first. I'm so glad I did, because after a few hours, they began to open rapidly. By the end of the evening, the blossoms were twice the size they were when I started.  I didn't dare take a break until the flowers where finished - not even to eat.  I guess you could call me a "Starving Artist!"
