"DAISY KIND OF DAY" Original oil on canvas wrap 24 x 36 by Janice Trane Jones

"Daisy Kind of Day" is an original oil on canvas wrap that measures 24 x 36 x 2. The painting is still drying but will be available for sale on my website @janicetranejones.com soon. This was a fun painting to paint. Not too many people can resist daisies. They have a feeling of Spring, hope and new beginnings. Summer Bliss Video Demo by Pamela Blaies

Summer Bliss
14" x 11"
oil on linen

I've had a great summer filled with vacations and hanging out with the family. Travelling is fun, but I'm always glad to get home. Getting back into the studio after some refreshing time off was pure bliss. This week I filmed the creation of one of my newest pieces which I title Summer Bliss.

Inspired by Pamela Blaies

Orange Reflections
12" x 16"
oil on linen

I went to see the Sorolla exhibit at the Meadows Museum in Dallas yesterday with some artist friends. He was a very prolific artist during the late 1800s and early 1900s and painted hundreds of large (like climb-on-a-ladder-and-tape-your-brushes-to-long-sticks large) paintings! I've seen many of Sorolla's paintings in books, but seeing a photograph is nothing compared to the amazing experience of viewing his work in person. His use of color temperature to create light was fabulous. But I think what was most interesting to me was his thick, juicy strokes and loose brushwork. I found myself standing up close to study each stroke, then backing away to see the overall effect over and over again with each painting.

Looking Forward to 2014 by Pamela Blaies

September Reflections
20" x 16"
oil on linen

Taking a break from the studio to spend time with my family over the Christmas holidays has been rejuvenating. It may seem a little early to begin thinking about spring, but I'm already getting excited about planning my schedule. I received invitations to exhibit in the Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park in Houston, Texas and Southlake Art in the Square and I'm thrilled. They both rank at the top of the list of the best fine art festivals in the United States. I'll be participating in a few group exhibits this spring as well. Looking forward to the new year!

Little Orange Cutie by Pamela Blaies

6" x 6"
oil on linen panel

Painting glass (vases, glasses, bowls, whatever) is fun! I love the way the light plays through, on and around glass - especially colored glass. This aqua blue vase with white spring flowers is the perfect complement to the little Mandarin Orange "Cutie." I focused on staying loose while painting this one by using as few strokes as possible to keep the feeling clean and fresh.
