Thought I would post today's painting I did for the Daily Paintworks -Balance Challenge. I appropriately named it Leftovers because no one would finish the end of the blueberries. I must say I always under estimate how much time these small works take! Had a lot of fun once I got into it. Feedback always welcomed.

I'm a newbie here  and just signed up with CFAI. Looking forward to contributing to this blog and seeing everyone's work on here. Very inspirational! The above piece is one I painted for the Daily Paintworks challenge "Value Study". It was a bit of a struggle getting the dark values dark because the burnt umber was so translucent. A great exercise regardless.

I've mentioned the challenges of plein air painting, and have mentioned some additional challenges of plein air painting on a boat, ie:  changing light, changing reflections on the water, high glare.  Another one is boat movement.  As the boat sways and rocks slowly with the water, you aren't always aware of this.  But, when you're painting and look up and the shadow right in front of you is different, you just go with what was there!  You can't keep changing light and shadow.
