The Cure, Original Still Life Oil Painting by Arizona Artist Mary Opat

"The Cure"
10 x 10 Original Oil on Linen Panel by
Arizona Artist Mary Opat

This painting is a little different for me.  I usually put a little more vibrant color
into my paintings.  I really love the subtlety of the colors in this setup.

Yesterday's Rose by Pamela Blaies

6" x 6"
oil on linen panel

I cut this rose to paint a little while ago, but didn't get to it that day. Today, I decided I wanted to put it in my composition. Alas, it was to pooped to party and began dropping petals left and right. I still loved its graceful shape and decided the fading beauty was the heart of this little piece.

Cobalt Blue by Pamela Blaies

7" x 5"
oil on linen panel

I love this little cobalt blue bud vase. It is so deep blue, that it almost looks black unless I put it on something white. Then the blue really comes out as the white gleams through and reflects back onto the glass. Pairing it with lemons is the perfect complement.

Carving Out Time for Me by Pamela Blaies

6" x 6"
oil on linen panel

I had a thousand things going yesterday, so it was tough to carve out time to paint, but I was determined. I headed to my studio, turned off all of the phones and felt like I was entering a spa. As I listened to music, the composition seemed to put itself together. I used a lot of paint and intentionally kept my brushstrokes loose. With my palette knife I gave juicy highlights to the lemons and sharp reflections on the cup with gold trim. This has turned out to be one of my favorites, it feels fresh and full of color and light.

I was excited to find out that my painting Copper Kettle and Lemons was juried into the Oil Painters of America 2013 Juried Salon Show. It will be held at the Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petosky, Michigan and will run from June 20 - Augus 31,2013. There is a reception on June 21 from 5 - 9 pm. Although the show is way up in Michigan, I sure hope I'll be able to make it!

Here are some more of my 5 lbs. of lemons from Costco!  I am almost done with them, gradually using them for other things besides a cup of tea.  They have been good sports about lining up for me to paint them.

Worcestershire and Lemons

I had most of my family for Thanksgiving this year. Everybody brought something. As always, my father was in charge of the shrimp. He makes a spicy cocktail sauce to go along with it. One of his special ingredients is Worcestershire sauce. During the commotion of getting dinner on the table, I caught a glance of his bottle of sauce sitting alongside three beautiful lemons. The color combination was striking. It had to be painted.

Gloria J Zucaro's "Are They Talking About Me?!"

6"H x 6"W  Original Oil on Canvas Panel

This lemons gossiping painting is for my PPF(Paint Party Friday) entry.  I just realised I posted to PPF before I posted here!!  That won't work.  I had the idea for this painting when I rolled out a bunch of lemons on my kitchen counter and took pictures from various sides.  This looked to me like most of the lemons were talking about the one who was left out in the upper left hand corner.  The Instigator of the gossip is the other lemon with a highlight and a well defined nose!
