Allegorical, Realism, Surrealism, Fine Art, Still-Life Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

 Double Departure
by Paula Peacock
18" x 22"
Oil on Canvas

In 2014 I lost both my son and my little sister to a better place. This painting depicts that loss.

The butterflies in the mirror indicate what we on earth think of as angels. They are powerful yet gentle entities that have led my son and sister(represented by the 2 monks gazing at each ) to 'The Other Side' of the mirror. The 3rd monk(me) is on the outside looking in. Or am I looking out? A thin white ribbon reminds us we are all connected.

Allegorical, Realism, Surrealism Still-Life Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

Flight of the Passing Fancy
by Paula Peacock
36" x 48"
oil on canvas

This painting took five years to complete. I, evidently, was spending a lot of time contemplating my choice in men while working on this one. No, I'm not 'man-bashing'. I'm just truth-speaking.
This painting is a fairy tale about 'Three Little Pigs'.

Piggy One, also known as Passing Fancy One, built his home with straw. Hence the box of drinking straws. Needless to say, this pig had a drinking problem. Oops! You ignored those red flags, didn't you, Paula. Piggy had the annoying habit of always wearing sunglasses indoors, on cloudy days, and even dark evenings. Always! Straws did not make a firm foundation for a home.
Passing Fancy Two built his home with sticks. That's him sitting on top of the vintage game of 'Pick Up Stix'. Piggy, Two, was a very lazy and immature piggy. He came from a wealthy family and rarely worked. Mama sow had refused to allow any more suckling. His litter-mates appeared to have the same problem of holding down jobs and ended up expecting Two's mate, me, to support them as well. Huh! We'll see about that! His pile of sticks came tumbling down around his cute tiny head.
Three has taken a lot of training on how to be a husband. Three is also a work in progress. We were married 15 years, divorced for 5, and have been remarried for 6. Three has an excellent foundation, but it just needs a bit of mortar repair now and again. Three is a good piggy and not a Passing Fancy.
Life is good!!

May all that is happy be known to your heart.

Love and Light to you and yours,

Paula

New SOLO Exhibit with Paula Peacock

The Awakening by Paula Peacock

D'art Gallery

900 Santa Fe. Dr.

Denver, CO

I am exhibiting at the D'art Gallery Nov 12 - Dec 6, 2020, with my solo exhibit titled Altered Soul.

Altered Soul is an exhibit depicting the journey of an artist's struggle with grief after the loss of a loved one to violence.  The artist is me, Paula Peacock, and the loved one, my son.

Each painting and sculpture beckons you to lean in and feel the expressions of loneliness, anger, confusion, and depression of the artist. This visual journal was my art therapy, defining grief in a way I couldn't define with words. It lifted me from a very dark place up to the surface and even higher to a place of spiritual awakening and an understanding of unconditional love and forgiveness giving me a desire to help others to take that step upward into the peace of mind we all deserve.

I have watched this exhibit turn into a cathartic and cleansing experience for others viewing the art, who express their relief in knowing their grief is understood, they are not alone and never have been. For there are people who have walked in their shoes and know their despair in the inability to reach out and the inability to define their grief in words.

I will be at the gallery every Saturday, from 12 pm - 5 pm, and Sundays from 1 pm - 4 pm to chat and answer questions. I will host an artists talk Sunday, Nov 28 at 3 pm.

'Pandora's Box', Narrative Still-Life Realism/Surrealism Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

 'Pandora's Box' by Paula Peacock
Oil on Canvas, 16" x 20"

Love, love, love how this one turned out! This painting was years in the planning stages. Planning of the composition, the subject matter, do I include Pandora or not? How to depict the evils of the world? How to depict 'Hope'? In the end, I decided Pandora was overdone and in other paintings I found, Pandora always seemed to be depicted as an overly sexy sex object and a bit on the 'witchy' side. So, I decided to save Pandora the humiliation and let her take a rest from this rendition by painting only the 'box'. All the other elements fell into place after I found the perfect vessel. The apple is representative of Eve, another woman blamed for the woes of the world. But, that will be another story in another painting.
Here's a bit of what I call 'useless information that stuck in my brain for no apparent reason'. It really was NOT a box but a bowl. I guess they didn't do the box thing way back then. There was a misinterpretation of the word bowl to box in the 15th century and it has stuck for the last 500 years.
