FRENCH POTTERY by Dottie Martz, dottiefromvirginia
Original oil on 9x q122 linen panel website: dottiemartz.com
I found these small pieces of pottery in France and luckily, they made the trip home! I just knew I would open the package and find broken pieces..but, I didn't.
The sunflowers were in a metal tin and something else was needed...and I added the pottery. The triangle composition is one of my favorites. I almost always try to paint with the light source from the left...as that is the way we read...left to right. Not to say that that is the only way....it is just what I was taught and I like to do. Isn't that the way most of art is...?
Please check out my website...I. have been overflowing it with all of my daily paintings.

Peter's Rose: Floral Still life by Virginia Fine Artist Cathyann Burgess
Peter's Rose©2012C.L.Burgess 8x6 oil on panel
My friend and neighbor Peter, a native Brit, is a medical doctor, in whom I have come to entrust my care after my insidious bouts with hornets. He is also a birder, dog lover and avid gardener who loves art. So much so, that he even made a trip to see my pooch art in MD while he was there for his daughter's wedding last week!
Whenever Peter visits us, or just if the mood strikes he brings flowers from his garden. This is one of the most delicate little roses I have ever been given. The last painting I did of peonies, was a gift from Peter. Which I promptly returned in kind, by painting a small impromtu alla prima painting for him. I think someday I may have to publish a book of the paintings I do from his lovely gifts. The generosity in spirit of giving flowers to enjoy is always graciously and happily received by this artist.

Floral Still life: Daisies by Virginia Fine Artist Cathyann Burgess
Fresh As...©2012 C.L.Burgess oil on raymar panel linen 8x6 $250
OK...when your ceiling fills with water, threatening to collapse, after getting the plumbing "fixed", you can scream bloody hard and loud at your plumber, husband and anyone within ten feet of you, or you can run into your studio and escape into painting.
Guess what I did?
All's well now, and while not as fresh as a daisy in my great room, it is at least dry.
But hey....got a break from dogs today, huh?
But they will be back!

Pansies in a White Cup by Virginia fine Artist Cathyann Burgess
A Cup of Life©2012 C.L.Burgess 8x6 oil on canvas panel $175.
Flowers blooming, sunny day, and a light breeze supported my plein air painting at Bella Arte Gallery. This all prima oil painting of pansies was one of two done at a demo for mothers day event at the gallery on Friday.
My mother is the flower gardener extraordinaire. My love for them ties directly to her and her mother.
What would life be without flowers?
