Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Floral with Melon Still Life, 14x18x.75" Oil

Today's art is a workshop painting.  I recently attended a 4-day workshp with one of my favorite artists, Elio Camacho.  Elio is as good as an instructor as he is as an artist.  I would be hard pressed to find another instructor with as much knowledge and one who gave me as much individual attention.  Maybe he thought I need the attention more than others....just kidding.  Everyone in the class got lots of instruction tailored to their individual needs.

This is my second Elio workshop and I have already signed up for another.  I need constant reinforcement to actually put his techniques in practice.

Elio is not an internet artists, but you can find his work on Pinterest.  He doesn't allow photos taken of him that expose his face.  You will see lots of images of him at the easel, always from behind.

He lives in the Bay area, but travels to Florida in the Spring and Fall of each year to do workshops in several locations here.  Workshop information is available on his website here.  If you decide to go, you will have a real treat ahead of you, as he is also a very interesting person with a wonderful sense of humor.  Enjoy!

Have a great day!

Contemporary Still Life Painting, Chess Game "What's Your Next Move" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

"What's Your Next Move?" was painting #13 of a 30-day painting challenge.   Challenged to paint on a small canvas, I thought I would be creative with a few game symbols. What is your next move?   Could you see this little gem hanging near a game area in your house or someone else's?

I posted another Facebook live video today, my third one - and the good news is, I succeeded in not accidentally letting my house slippers show in the film. I've also learned that if I keep kibble on hand, I can lure her majesty, AnnieBee, into posing for her admirers during part of the shoot. This is always a big hit. I was feeling downright smart about the whole thing, until I lost my wifi connection and the video cut short just a bit! whoospie! If you missed the video clip, you can see it by clicking here. I shared a peek at my new little bistro table and chairs, and my new cute little squishable peony pillows that arrived a few days ago. But I digress!

I have a big announcement to make, but not....quite....yet! I'll be sharing it in my next newsletter and if you love color, if you love painting, and if you love FREE stuff, you won't want to miss it. Have you signed up yet? I sure hope so, the early bird gets the blossom, flower friends!

My iris garden is blooming and it's almost the end of December. Each morning I awaken, expecting the cold to stop this unexpected spell of blossoms, and more and more flowers are opening. I've decided to see this bounty as a gift from my newest guardian angel, my Mother. Thanks Mom, for the beauty!
I'm super excited to be the first painting artist to join the Vita Verde team for a destination workshop to Sant'Angelo in Vado, Italy. You are invited, flower friends, to join me in the heart of Italy for open air markets, wine tastings, a day trip to the Adriatic Sea, and all the art and culture your heart desires. You can learn more and see the movie highlights on my web site. Early bird discounts are good until the end of the year so don't delay! Click here for the movie!

Still Life Teapot, Daily Painting, "Antique French Teapot" by Carol Schiff, 16x16x1.5" Oil

This is not a new painting, but it is my favorite still life teapot painting.  It is a antique French teapot that I found on Etsy.

Purchase here
450 + shipping

The  owner of the Etsy site, Dandeliondecor gave me permission to use her image.  The teapot is no longer available but I am happy to have this painting.

I was attracted by the wavy lines, the beautiful china roses and the sweet curvy handle.  The painting is soft and subtle, but it catches my eye every day as I walk by it.  Yes, one of the perks of being an artist, is lots or original art on your walls.
Several years ago I did lots of still life teapots and flowers and food items.  I am getting in the mood to return to these subjects.

I hope you enjoy this daily painting today and I hope you will pin it.

The Joy of Being an Artist

Way back last year, I received an e-mail from 10-11 year old boy in Cleveland who was working on an art project.  His assignment was to interview an artist and do a powerpoint presentation.  He asked me a few general questions about my art.  This phone painting is what interested him.

8x10" oil
SOLD
I am sure many of you receive the same type of requests.  I have had several, from young students.  I always reply, trying to  answer their inquiries, without doing ALL the work for their report.  Occasionally, I will get a "thank you" in return, often nothing.

This young boy from Cleveland, Jake, is not the usual.  We had several exchanges.  He was always extremely polite , and always promised to send me reports.  And he did!  He sent me an outline of his presentation, then I got a video of him giving it.  My favorite question from his audience was "is she still alive?", which he answered with a resounding "yes"...Whew!

My children and grandchildren were excited and thrilled to see all this activity about me in Cleveland.

After a few weeks, he sent me his grade (he aced it) on the project, and I though we were through.  But no....  He also has to do a painting that emulates my work.

Jake's painting
This is my second update on his painting in progress.  Note the picture of my phone, there on the table.

And here  is the finished piece!  Didn't he do well!!?!!

I am thrilled, each time I hear from him.  This has been such an  exciting experience for me and hopefully for him too.  I now understand why people choose to teach, and, what a wonderful teacher he has.  He or she has set him on a road that will stay with him for life. What a fantastic project for a young mind.   Bravo!!

So, for me, painting has been so much more than just painting.  Today, I have a new energy and desire to get back to the easel....how lucky am I?  Thank you Jake!
