Still Life Floral Painting,Flower Art "Radiant Orchid" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

It's spring! I wanted to paint flowers; just for the joy of painting color. And just for fun, I wanted to use the Pantone Color of the Year for 2015: Radiant Orchid. I loved the color and loved the idea of incorporating such a rich, vibrant shade into a still life.

Still Life Floral Painting, Alstroemeria, Flower Painting, Fine Art “Baby’s Breath” by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

I only paint about one still life each year. It's not that I don't like painting them, but it seems that my landscapes flow more easily. When I do paint a still life, I love to choose something wonderfully complex and interesting. I loved painting a vase of white flowers to challenge myself to create subtle masses that made sense to the eye. Alstroemeria and baby's breath loaded into a clear glass vase gave communicated a fresh, sophisticated purity.

Fantasy Still Life, "Imagine," by Amy Whitehouse

Acrylic on Watercolor Paper, 6"x8" $75

Using the negative space painting method,
where I cover the surface with various colors and then
"carve out" the image with the background color,
I came up with this floral.
