Jar Series
Diane Mannion, JUST PEACHY, 4x6" oil
A trip to the food store can be an artistic adventure. Always searching for stuff to paint, I tend to look at things differently, sometimes staring and squinting, considering the colors and shiny bits. Shopkeepers rush to help me, maybe thinking I need stronger eyeglasses. When I arrived at the checkout with one tiny jar of baby food and a package of size 2 baby diapers... they asked if my grandchild was visiting. I nodded and smiled, letting them think I was also hard of hearing. Didn't want to explain that the jar was to paint, and the diapers were for my geriatric poodle who can no longer hold it in.

Floral Still Life by Cathyann Burgess
Petal Pinks©2011 C.L.Burgess oil on wood 8x6
I saved this camellia before a rainstorm and put it into the nearest container and almost forgot it, as I got distracted with something else in my studio, which is the bane of my existence of late. As the afternoon wore on and I was starting to get ready to cook dinner I noticed the light hitting the fading bloom in its little pitcher. Opportunity presented itself ...or was it just a distraction from making dinner?

"Red Grapes" by Sandy Bradford
"Red Grapes"
8" x 8" Oil on Canvas Panel
Grapes pose a challenge to paint even though they are quite small. Light hits them in an interesting way, making them appear translucent. These red seedless grapes (delicious, by the way)were actually several different colors, including lavender and purple, as well as a deep red. I decided to paint them in a "painterly" fashion, showing some brushstrokes, and taking an impressionistic approach.

Another Orange
Carved Orange
4x6"
oil
My first post to Still Life Artists! Found this orange gracefully carved in the refrigerator the morning after a great dinner party. My husband used the orange slices, tied with a knot to decorate the cosmopolitans. They were delicious!
"Okay, Everyone Listen Up" by Sandy Bradford
8" x 8" Oil on Stretched Canvas
$75 USD
Clementines are so delicious. I bought a bag of them last weekend, and decided to set a few up in a still life. I chose the blue linen because I really liked the way the bright orange and vibrant blue played off one another. When I added the green folded linen and placed one clementine on top, the arrangement began to look as though a coach were talking to his team saying, "Okay, Everyone Listen Up".
This oil painting is on stretched canvas using 1 1/2" stretcher bars, suitable for hanging with or without a frame. As always, I welcome comments and questions.
