Art, Love and Roses by Pamela Blaies
Keepsake
12" x 9"
SOLD
A romantic collector purchased Keepsake this week as a gift for his lucky wife of 38 years. He shared with me that upon opening the box, she cried - in a good way! I was very touched by this story. Recently another collector gifted his wife a painting of red roses, Be Mine, and he also shared the wonderful "reveal" story with me. Art has a special way of touching others which is so exciting to experience from my perspective, as the artist. Art, love and roses...a beautiful combination!

Next to My Heart Stargazer Lilies - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina
Next to My Heart Stargazer Lilies
by Nancy Medina
16X12
Oil on Archival Panel
Next to My Heart Stargazers was one of my six class demonstrations during my Spring, Texas workshop last week. No sooner home, than it's time to pack for Missouri. These back to back workshops will finally slow a bit, I'll have a few weeks to paint (and film another new video) in July. The thought of three weeks of quality time with my easel, studio, hubby and four little puggy helpers is pure bliss - I can hardly wait!

Hot Texas Summers by Pamela Blaies
Plein Air Painting in July
I love to share my art and inspiration. Click HERE to sign up for my email newsletter and receive a free gift of postcards.
I was happy to have such beautiful weather this past week so I could get outside to do some painting. This is a piece done en plein air of some red Knockout roses in my backyard garden. It takes until around 11 am for the sun to hit this rose bush, which made for a pretty hot painting session. I had to work fast to catch the right light, but that is the beauty of plein air painting - limited time forces you to focus on what is important to express your idea.

Glad Day Peonies and a Dallas Arboretum Workshop - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina
Glad Day Peonies

Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas
Class Demonstration ~ Dallas Arboretum
Glad Day Peonies was my class demonstration this morning during my Dallas Arboretum workshop - what a beautiful place to make flowers bloom! Stargazer lilies, glads and peonies were painted today (when you can't decide what to paint, why not paint it all?). I do think the chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles on top added a little something extra to the whole event, but that could just be the choco-holic in me talking. In addition to the outstanding helpers and volunteers at the Arboretum who make every workshop and event there enjoyable, it's such a treat to paint in the most beautiful gardens in North Texas. Next stop, my home state of Missouri and I get to stay in the haunted house again!

Wild Abandon Hydrangeas and My New Video - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina
Wild Abandon Blue Hdyrangeas

Oil on Archival Panel

My blue brushes were all warmed up, so the hydrangea parade continues in Flower Mound Studio this week. There are some very important characteristics about hydrangeas that are singular to these flowers and really "tell the story" of these woodland beauties. My garden is full of hydrangeas, most of whom are refugees from earlier workshops. I buy them in pots to paint in class whenever possible, then plant them in my garden after class is over. It's the ultimate in recycling - paint the flower, plant the flower! I share the personality traits of hydrangeas, plus all my favorite color combinations, in my on demand video. Here's a sample for you....

Let Petite Peonies and Sacred Art Spaces - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina
Le Petite Peonies

My new hydrangea video!
My new hydrangea video!
Le Petite Peonies was one of six class demonstrations in my Spring, Texas, workshop last week, held in the heart of Old Town Spring, a charming little historic town with tons of shops and restaurants. We were in the Davis & Company Gallery, and every few hours got to hear the train whistle, something right out of my earliest childhood memories. Do you ever travel somewhere, and it feels so familiar, though you've never been there before? It's like you get this instant feeling of ease, and everything you see resonates deeply in a comforting way.
I received a note from a dear friend who is battling cancer a few days ago, and her words are with me. She said: Your gift has given you a beautiful life. Enjoy the time that you have. I always try to share with my students to take a space, make it sacred, and hold this as their place to paint. Honoring yourself as an artist is so important, and yet we artists are always so busy focusing on our shortcomings, we rarely remember how special it is to have this calling. I think one of the most amazing things about my life, is my art lets me meet an amazing, wonderful group of like minded people throughout the world. What a lucky gal I am!

Petal Rain Sunflowers and a Spring, Texas Workshop - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina
Petal Rain Sunflowers
by Nancy Medina
20X16
Class Demonstration
Oil on Archival Panel
Petal Rain Sunflowers was my class demonstration during my 3-day workshop at Davis and Company Gallery located in the heart of Spring, Texas, a charming little Texas town with lots of wonderful shopping, history and restaurants. Melissa Doron, an accomplished artist and the owner of Davis and Company Gallery, has been such a wonderful hostess and I'm afraid she is spoiling us quite rotten! Coffee and treats in the mornings, wine in the afternoons...oh my.... What a treat to paint in such a beautiful venue, such great light, large open spaces, and walls filled with the work of artists from across Texas and around the country.
We painted blue hydrangeas yesterday, tackled sunflowers today, and tomorrow we paint white daisies and peonies. Stay tuned to my art bloggy for more pictures to come!

Original Still Life Floral Painting "Under The Surface" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse
I belong to local CSA. When we pick up our weekly allotment of produce, sometimes we are allowed to pick a bouquet of flowers from an unruly patch of Colorado wildflowers. I gathered this armful of blooms, brought them home, and placed them in a plain glass vase and put them on my windowsill. I loved them! The star of the show for me, though, was how beautiful and delicate the stems under the water’s surface looked. The background is a series of glazes, all whites, off-whites, beiges, pale pinks, and browns. The flowers are, well… flowers. This painting received an honorable mention in the Artist’s Magazine annual competition: 7800 entries–18 winners. Even though the original sold fairly quickly, the prints are wonderful!
This painting is sold, but prints are available in multiple sizes HERE

Small Floral Still Life | Flower Painting | Daily Painting | Rose Bush and Reflection by Carol Schiff | SOLD
I am continuing on with my series of small floral still life paintings in oil. They are just too much fun to stop! This is one of my all time favorite daily paintings.
Of course, this painting has all my favorite colors....the rose, purple, turquoise, green and yellow seem to sing.
This little blossom makes the composition special.
When I first started painting, I worked in pastel for eight years, before moving on to oil. One of my favorite pastels was a painting I did from the same photograph.
This painting is 20x25"....much larger and still one of my all time favorites. I must say though, that I prefer the new version over this.
Which do you prefer?

What could be cheerier on a dreary day that a bright red flower painting? Geraniums are always a favorite in my home. This one is painted on stretched canvas and looks fantastic in a bold black frame.
This will brighten up even the darkest, most boring corner of your home.
Once again, my goal was to keep my colors clean and bright and my strokes simple and bold. I think I achieved my goals in this flower painting. Thanks for viewing my daily painting today.

Pink Renewal Hydrangeas and How to Find Your Inspiration - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina
Pink Renewal Hydrangeas
by Nancy Medina
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I often get asked where it is that I find my inspiration, and do I ever run out of ideas of things to paint. Usually I get a good chuckle out of this, because there are so many things I want to paint, it will take about 150 years for me to get to a fraction of them. I walked out on my deck this morning, after being in Tennessee for a few days, and was greeted by full, joyful blooms of color. I am often asked, how do I find my inspiration - There is one thing I almost always do to make sure the muses are singing.... Read more...
