"Bananas and Strawberry" by Sandy Bradford

"Bananas and Strawberry"
8" x 10" Oil on Canvas Panel
$65 USD (Unframed)
Free Shipping

Okay, I wasn't very original with the title of this one, I agree. But when you consider all of the cliches that went through my head (that I rejected!!!), then you may appreciate the lack of a cutesy title...(Going Bananas, Just Bananas, Bananas and Friend...).

At any rate, I hope that you enjoy this 8" x 10" oil painting, inspired by the almost flawless banana bunch that I discovered at a local grocery. And yes, the strawberry looks a little large, but believe it or not, it is true to life. It must be a good month for mammoth-sized strawberries. Gaillardia In July and August we see wild Gaillardia (also known as Indian Blanket) growing along the gravel roads on the Western Plains. How does this happen? The soil is hard as rock, moisture is all but non-existent. Yet, there they grow, to brighten our travel. Sold

"He's Not One of Us" by Sandy Bradford

"He's Not One of Us"
8" x 10" Oil on Canvas Panel

I bought these apples because of the color striations running throughout. I decided that they would make interesting subjects. I added the green lime for contrast. Viola!!! The name came to me during the setup, when I decided to separate the apples from the lime. I imagined the apples discussing between themselves that the lime was "not one of them".

I decided to blend more than unusual, which limited most of the visible brushwork.

"Reflections of a Sliced Lemon" by Sandy Bradford

"Reflections of a Sliced Lemon"
6" x 6" Oil Painting on Stretched Canvas
$75 USD, plus Shipping

Blue and yellow are an exciting color combination. I think they also work well with orange.

These thoughts went through my mind as I assembled this still life, calling once again upon the help of my brightly colored lemon, along with an orange napkin.

I enjoyed creating this small oil painting, and the smell of the sliced lemon was such a pleasant bonus during the process!

Thank you once again for viewing my artwork. Comments and suggestions are both welcome.
This painting is unframed, however, framing is available. Please contact me with inquiries.

"I'm Not Speaking to You Anymore" by Sandy Bradford

6" x 6" Oil Painting
Stretched Canvas, 1 1/2 Inch Wide Stretcher Bars
$75 USD, plus Shipping

I thought I would give the lime and lemon one more spot in the "limelight" by painting them atop a green linen napkin. I was moving them around, debating on an interesting setup when I turned them away from one other, and thought that they looked as though they had deliberately turned their backs. This then led to the title "I'm Not Speaking to You Anymore".

This still life is available for purchase either framed or unframed. Email Sandy Bradford or visit my blogspot for more information.

Still life: Blue Orchids by Cathyann Burgess

Blue Orchids©2011C.L.Burgess 5x7 oil on masonite panel
$150 + s/h

Was I ever awed by the display of these unusual orchids last week! I caved in and bought some to add to my meager collection. I think there will be a series of paintings coming out of this. This is a small study for my daily workout.

For Japan: Quince Blossoms by Cathyann Burgess

An Offering©2011 C.L.Burgess 12 x12 oil on gallery wrap linen

The horror we bear witness to today and over the past few days, affects us all. When things like this happen, I am ever thankful that art is my vehicle for expression and as haven for my soul.
I painted this over the weekend, mindful and heartsick for Japan and its citizens and for us all, really. I finished today. The pot is one I made and the blooms from a bush I recently planted. It is my offering for the souls lost and those still suffering. And yet, it is a reminder that life moves forward, that the earth still meets us fresh and new somewhere, with promise. The question before us is, will we honor it?

This is my very first blog! So exciting for me. I hope you enjoy "Priscilla" She got her name from a fellow artist in my building. When I finish a painting I usually go around and show it to anyone who is around. If I can't think of a name I'll ask for help. This is the name Judy came up with. I love it!

Sill life in oil: Pears by Cathyann Burgess

Pared Pears©2011C.L.Burgess oil on canvas panel 8x8
$250 +s/h

There is just something about this fruit with its modulating form that holds interest for painters. I have painted peeled pears and apples a few times and it seems to offer equal appeal to me as the raw fruit in its skin.
